Dear Readers I welcome you to my ramblings page. Where I ramble. Of course, I hope these little tidbits of life are fun to read and provide some insight into the wonderful world of McLain. I think it’s interesting to post your thoughts up where literally anyone with a web address can see them, and therefore dissect your life, make judgements about you, and ultimately decide whether they like you or not. It’s a game of chess. How do I clearly articulate my thoughts, feelings and observations without chasing people away? And still be honest? You know what’s funny? I am not talking about drugs or sex - although I may be talking about Rock n Roll – I am talking about …..God. That’s right. The Big Kahuna. The Man Upstairs. El Capitan. (which is also a theater I have yet to go to). I will confess. I happen to be a Christian. What kind of a Christian? Let’s see – I drink beer, I like Pink Floyd, I play very loud guitar, I write songs that don’t have anything (directly) to do with God in them, and I believe gay people are human beings who deserve to be loved, cared for and understood just like anyone else. In other words, I am striving towards understanding post-modernist thinking, and how that affects my relationship with Christ, and with other people. My faith is not about bashing you over the head, or getting you in a corner. The older I get the more I learn - I begin to understand that the Beatles were 100% right: “The love you take is equal to the love you make.” We have to want to love people right where they are at. Every single one of us. What gets you through your day? I chose Christ. Not the ‘christ’ of the crusades, which was a façade and an excuse for goverments and kings to slaughter innocent people and then hide behind religion for reasoning. Nor is it the ‘christ’ who condems and hates and blows up abortion clinics. I don’t follow that one, either. The things ‘organized religion’ has done in the name of ‘christ’ blow me away with their sheer cruelty, stupidity and lack of any real love in them. The things the ultra Right Wing has done to defame and destroy the very fabric of what Christianity is supposed to be about disgusts me. Me? I follow Christ the radical. Christ the revolutionary. I believe Jesus was a bringer of love and division at the same time. He taught us how to accept people regardless of their skin color, their marital status or level of hedonism. In the process He really pissed off the ‘religious’ order of the day and created a rift that exists to this day: those who truly love and those who just play the game. I don’t intend to play the game. I hope when you visit this site, you feel welcome. If you are reading this, you are someone I probably know and wanted to send a link to my music to or to read a specific article. I appreciate your time. I care very much for the friends I have, and I’ll accept any comments you have. Feel free to call me or email me. Also, if you have something you’d like to contribute to this discussion, then email me your thoughts! I may even post them on the site. Pax Scott McLain
